OUr story
Genesis Farms traces its roots to the South Dakota Coalition for Compassion, founded by Justin Johnson and Emmett Reistroffer. United by personal connections to medical cannabis—Justin as a cancer survivor and Emmett through a family member—they collaborated with advocates across the state to champion patient access.
In 2010, alongside MS patients like Patrick Lynch, they brought their cause to the South Dakota Capitol. Despite initial resistance and a failed ballot initiative, they persisted, supporting future campaigns and advocating for cannabis legalization.
After voters passed Initiated Measure 26 and Amendment A in 2020, Justin and Emmett lobbied state lawmakers to implement the new laws, even as Amendment A faced legal setbacks. Today, Genesis Farms remains dedicated to expanding access to medical cannabis and advocating for broader legalization.
